OMB resumes Social Security stipend check distribution on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Office of Management and Budget resumed distribution of Social Security benefit stipend checks on St. Croix on Nov. 14 at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agriculture Fair Grounds.
Government House said the agency used a staggered alphabetical distribution process after large crowds caused problems the previous week. Distribution on St. Croix was scheduled to continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Nov. 18.
Under the schedule, recipients with last names A-F were assigned Nov. 14, G-L on Nov. 15, M-R on Nov. 16 and S-Z on Nov. 17. Recipients who could not pick up checks on their assigned day were told they could do so on Nov. 18. Government House said manual distribution could continue after Nov. 18 if needed.
Check distribution in the St. Thomas district continued on Nov. 14 at the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center parking lot and at the St. John Administrator's Office in Cruz Bay.
The government said the $500 payment was to be issued to about 22,000 Social Security recipients in the territory who are seniors or disabled adults.
Officials also said recipients in both districts could request that their stipend be mailed.
