Mapp signs $243 million HUD recovery grant for U.S. Virgin Islands

Gov. Kenneth Mapp and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Pamela Hughes Patenaude announced on Sept. 27, 2018, that they had formally executed a $243 million grant for hurricane recovery in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Government House said the grant was intended to support recovery from Hurricanes Irma and Maria, including work to restore damaged or destroyed homes, businesses and infrastructure.

The administration said the funding included $33 million for economic development projects, including marine port upgrades and construction-trades training.

Government House also said Mapp met with U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry and other officials in Washington and was scheduled to return to the territory on Sept. 28, 2018.
