HHS awards more than $1.2 million in disaster recovery grants to two Virgin Islands health centers

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded more than $1.2 million in disaster recovery grants to the Frederiksted Health Care Center on St. Croix and the East End Medical Center on St. Thomas, according to a Government House statement published Sept. 7, 2018.

The Frederiksted clinic was awarded $674,800, and East End Medical Center was awarded $589,927.

Government House said the Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts grants would support alterations, renovations and equipment costs to assist the health centers with disaster response and recovery.

The statement said the funding was made available in the disaster relief package in the Bipartisan Budget Act signed into law in February 2018 and was part of the federal disaster funding allocated to the territory.
