Bryan announced YES utility-bill credit program for WAPA customers
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on April 27, 2020, a utility-bill assistance program called Your Energy Stimulus, or YES, to help Virgin Islands residents and businesses pay Water and Power Authority bills during the COVID-19 emergency.
Under the program, credits of $250 for residential accounts and $500 for commercial accounts were to be applied to the May billing cycle for active WAPA accounts. The credit was to appear on bills as a line item labeled "YES Cares Act Credit."
The government said the credit could not be converted to cash. Any unused portion on a May power bill would be applied to the following month's bill.
The program was funded with federal CARES Act stimulus money approved by Congress in early April 2020.
