WAPA board approved revised APR Energy pricing for St. Thomas rental generators

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority board approved a renegotiated pricing structure on May 10, 2019, for three APR Energy rental generating units at the Randolph Harley Power Plant on St. Thomas.

WAPA said the revised agreement set Unit 25, a 20-megawatt unit, at a variable rate of $400 per fired hour, retroactive to Nov. 1, 2018. The authority said the contract included no minimum use requirement for that unit, and that the variable rate would not apply if the unit was used because other APR rental units were unavailable.

WAPA said the agreement ran for 20 months, through the end of 2020, and also changed the monthly rental rate for two other generating units to $475,000 per unit.

The vote was unanimous at an emergency board meeting on May 10, 2019.
