Bryan issues statement on death of Colin Powell

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on October 19, 2021, marking the death of former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.

In the statement, Bryan said Powell "helped pave the way for African Americans to attain the highest levels of government" as the first Black secretary of state. He also cited Powell's service as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the invasion of Panama and Operation Desert Storm.

Bryan said Powell "left a monumental legacy" and described him as a leader, statesman and soldier.
