The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on September 12, 2023, that contractors were continuing a Geographic Information Systems inventory of transmission and distribution assets on St. Croix.
WAPA said technicians from Davey Resource Group were scheduled to inspect poles, meters, padmount equipment and other assets. The authority said manhole inspections were planned for September 11 through September 16 along Northside Road from Route 75 North to Rattan Road and west on Rattan Road to Route 81 near Sion Hill. It said the southbound lane would be closed in short sections, with flaggers directing traffic.
WAPA said field work for that week also included areas around Christiansted Harbor, Island Center Road, East End Road, Altona Lagoon, East Grange and Golden Rock.
The authority said overhead audits were planned along East End Road from the Buccaneer Hotel entrance to the Southgate Great Pond Road intersection, including the Buccaneer area, Shoy and Annas Hope. It also said audits were planned along Claude A. Benjamin Memorial Drive from Rattan to Sunny Isle, ending at Queen Mary Highway near the WAPA business office, and along an underground route from the Golden Rock stoplight toward Five Corners, then west on Rattan Road and on to Sion Valley Road near the Free Will Baptist School.
WAPA said traffic would be flagged in sections for short periods. It said Davey technicians would use video cameras and other devices during the inventory and could be identified by contractor ID badges, safety vests and a letter of authority.
