Education Department and first lady scheduled school kitchen staff training for Aug. 21-22, 2019

Government House said on August 16, 2019, that First Lady Yolanda Bryan and the Virgin Islands Department of Education planned to host the 2019 Shadow A Chef Enrichment Program for school-based kitchen staff.

The program was scheduled for August 21, 2019, at the Charlotte Amalie High School auditorium and cafeteria and for August 22, 2019, at the Educational Complex cafeteria. Sessions were set for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on both days.

According to the announcement, the program was intended for cooks, food service workers and kitchen managers across the territory. Chef Larry Nibbs of Nibbs Catering and Ralph Motta of Motta Cuisine were slated to lead food development strategy sessions.

Government House said the training would cover customer service, workplace etiquette, menu development and food preparation, with a focus on partnerships between chefs and school kitchen staff, food presentation and student participation in the school lunch program.
