St. Thomas EMTs moved to Omar Brown Sr. Fire Station during Schneider hospital repairs

Emergency Medical Services on St. Thomas began operating from the Omar Brown Sr. Fire Station after being displaced from Schneider Regional Medical Center on August 10, 2019, because of repairs at the hospital, according to a Government House statement published August 14, 2019.

V.I. Fire Service Director Daryl George Sr. said four EMTs and two ambulances were stationed at the fire station near Barbel Plaza and were operating around the clock.

The statement said firefighters assisted EMS on August 13, 2019, when EMS requested help and firefighters worked with a paramedic on a patient in an ambulance as it traveled with a fire truck escort to Schneider Regional Medical Center's emergency room.

George said repairs at Schneider were expected to take a few weeks, and St. Thomas EMS would continue operating from the fire station during that period.
