Virgin Islands cancels planned sandbag distribution as Hurricane Lee forecast shifts north
The Virgin Islands government said on Sept. 7, 2023, that it had canceled plans to distribute sandbags and sand on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 at the Department of Public Works and Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services stations on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix.
The government said the decision followed forecast changes showing Hurricane Lee moving away from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Residents were still urged to prepare for minimal impacts.
