Bryan nominates Lisa Alejandro for Property and Procurement commissioner

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on May 30 that he had nominated Lisa Alejandro to serve as commissioner of the Virgin Islands Department of Property and Procurement.

Alejandro had been serving as acting commissioner since Feb. 14, when former Commissioner Anthony Thomas resigned.

Government House said Alejandro had more than 27 years of experience in inventory management and procurement, including 17 years in government procurement. It said she had served as a contract administrator, manager of procurement and contracts, and chief deputy commissioner of procurement.

As acting commissioner, Alejandro oversaw the territory’s procurement, central stores and warehousing, and vendor maintenance divisions through the Office of Procurement, Contract Management and Reporting, according to Government House.

Government House said Alejandro is a certified contracting officer representative and holds a master’s degree in operations management.

Her nomination was to be considered first by the Legislature’s Rules and Judiciary Committee, followed by action by the full Legislature.

At the same May 30 briefing, Bryan said the Office of Management and Budget would begin accepting online applications on June 5 from Social Security recipients who had not received $500 stipend checks. Government House said checks would be printed on June 12.
