Government House said $25 million in income tax refunds would be distributed
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on June 6, 2022, that the Virgin Islands government would distribute another $25 million in income tax refunds, covering refunds owed for tax year 2020.
Government House said the administration had budgeted $25 million per quarter for refund payments as it worked to reduce the backlog.
During the same briefing, Bryan said non-essential government offices would be closed on Monday, June 20, 2022, in observance of Juneteenth, which fell on Sunday, June 19.
Government House also reported that as of June 6, 2022, the territory had a seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate of 11.72% and 627 active cases. It said one COVID-19 patient was hospitalized at Juan F. Luis Hospital on St. Croix and six were hospitalized at Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas.
