Bryan proclaimed May 16-22 as Emergency Medical Services Week

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. proclaimed May 16 through May 22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to a Government House announcement published May 17, 2021.

The proclamation said access to quality emergency care improves survival and recovery rates for people with sudden illness or injury and said emergency medical services had been critical in the response to COVID-19.

It said the territory’s emergency medical services system includes first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public and other out-of-hospital medical care providers.

The proclamation also said the Virgin Islands was preparing for the integration of fire services and emergency medical services with the goal of providing a greater level of service and shorter response times.
