The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on September 5, 2023, that it had delivered its monthly update to the 35th Legislature on the status of the authority’s Vitol acquisition through the Office of Senate President Novelle Francis.

In the update, WAPA said the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority formally submitted an application on August 17, 2023, to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development seeking funding for the acquisition.

WAPA said VIHFA was the direct applicant and intended grant recipient, while WAPA would serve as a subrecipient and receive funding through VIHFA.
