Bryan appoints Richard Evangelista as Government House chief legal counsel
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on July 30, 2023, that Licensing and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Richard Evangelista was leaving the department to serve as the governor’s chief legal counsel.
Evangelista had served as commissioner of the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs since 2019. Government House said he had practiced law in the territory for more than 20 years and had held posts including legal counsel for the Virgin Islands Public Employees Relations Board, assistant commissioner and legal counsel at the Labor Department, senior policy adviser to former Gov. John P. deJongh Jr., acting chief executive officer and legal counsel at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center, and assistant attorney general in the Justice Department.
Government House said DLCA Assistant Commissioner H. Natalie Hodge would serve as acting commissioner until Bryan formally announced a nominee to lead the agency.
