The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on November 22, 2023, that more than 20,000 individual water vouchers had been issued to St. Croix customers in areas affected by lead and copper in drinking water.

WAPA said the vouchers were distributed from November 18 through November 20, 2023, with support from government agencies, private-sector partners and vendors. The authority identified participating agencies as the Office of the Governor, VITEMA, the departments of Health, Human Services, Planning and Natural Resources, Property and Procurement, Licensing and Consumer Affairs, and Police, along with the Virgin Islands National Guard, Virgin Islands Housing Authority, Bureau of Information Technology and Viya.

WAPA said participating vendors included The Market, two Pueblo locations, Plaza East and Blue Mountain Water. The authority also said the 35th Legislature funded the initiative.

According to WAPA, Virgin Islands Housing Authority residents in Aureo Diaz Heights, Candido Guadalupe, Williams Delight, Whim Gardens and Walter I.M. Hodge, as well as residents of the Louis E. Brown, Vista Mar and Mutual Homes private communities and Meals on Wheels participants, including those on the waiting list, were receiving vouchers through their respective agencies.
