Bryan signs agreement for 2.5-acre land donation for St. Croix drag racing facility
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. signed an agreement in the week of Dec. 10, 2021, with St. Croix Renaissance Group Vice President of Engineering and Energy Jehangir Zakaria for the donation of a 2.5-acre parcel on St. Croix for a drag racing facility.
Government House said the land would allow the Caribbean Drag Racing Association to extend its strip, add safety measures and combine the parcel with an adjacent 16-acre site owned by the Virgin Islands Port Authority and leased to the association.
The administration said Bryan had provided the association with $337,750 in grant funding in October 2021 for redevelopment work east of Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, including safety walls, fencing and paving of the return lane. It also said the association received $500,000 in government funding in 2020 for paving the main strip and building ADA-compliant bleachers and a judge's tower with a VIP section.
Sports, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Calvert White, St. Croix Administrator Sammuel Sanes, Caribbean Drag Racing Association President Arthur Hector Sr., and association member Ramon Cuencas attended the signing, according to Government House.
