BER staff took confidentiality oath for 2017 Economic Census work

Virgin Islands Bureau of Economic Research staff took an oath of confidentiality on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, as part of the territory’s partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau on the 2017 Economic Census of Island Areas.

The oath gave BER Director Bernadette Melendez, Senior Policy Analyst Donnie Dorsett and other BER staff Special Sworn Status to assist with nonresponse follow-up activities.

Bill Samples, an Economic Census assistant survey director, and Robert Nusz, Economic Census assistant survey director staff chief, witnessed the ceremony.

The Census Bureau conducts the economic census every five years for the United States and its territories. Employer businesses are required by law to complete the surveys. The filing deadline was June 12, 2018, though business owners were still being encouraged to respond.

Samples said business data submitted to the Census Bureau is kept confidential.
