Bryan order suspended some evictions, raised taxi capacity and allowed bar seating

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a 24th supplemental executive order on May 25, 2021, easing some COVID-19 restrictions in the U.S. Virgin Islands, including suspending some evictions through July 30, 2021, increasing taxi passenger limits and allowing patrons to sit at bars in restaurants and clubs.

The order amended landlord-tenant restrictions in the 21st Supplemental Order issued on January 27, 2021. Evictions were suspended through at least July 30, 2021, for tenants who were being evicted for financial reasons or nonpayment of rent, had been financially affected by COVID-19, and had a pending Emergency Rental Assistance Program application with the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority.

The order also amended the 22nd Supplemental Order issued on March 1, 2021, raising passenger limits for taxis, safaris, taxi vans and limousines to 75% of permitted capacity from 50%. Drivers and passengers were required to wear masks at all times. If all passengers in a taxicab or safari were from the same family or group, the vehicle could exceed the capacity limit.

The order removed a restriction in the 21st Supplemental Order that had barred patrons from sitting at bars in restaurants, bars and clubs. Customers were allowed to sit at the bar, but standing and congregating around the bar area remained prohibited. Food and alcohol could be served only to patrons seated in designated bar seats, with each party placed at least 4 feet from any other party or table.
