LEPC set May 20 deadline for proposals for three federal justice grants
The Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Planning Commission said it began accepting proposals on April 8, 2024, for three Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants covering fiscal years 2019, 2020 and 2021. The submission deadline was 4 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024.
The grants were funded through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs. LEPC said applications were open to private nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, government agencies, law-enforcement programs, youth programs, rehabilitation programs, drug-treatment programs and behavioral-health programs.
According to the announcement, the funding could be used for crime-prevention and criminal-justice improvement projects, including law enforcement, prosecution and court programs, corrections, technology improvements, victim and witness programs, and mental-health and crisis-intervention programs. LEPC said summer and after-school programs could apply for between $10,000 and $40,000 per application.
LEPC said nonprofit applicants were required to submit a valid Unique Entity ID, SAM.gov registration, a certificate of incorporation, an IRS determination letter regarding 501(c)(3) status, articles of incorporation, and a current certificate of good standing from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
The commission said incomplete applications would be disqualified. It directed applicants to submit proposals electronically to 2019JAG@lepc.vi.gov, 2020JAG@lepc.vi.gov or 2021JAG@lepc.vi.gov, depending on the request for proposals.
