Government House advised residents to assemble hurricane emergency kits before June 1 season start
Government House on March 30, 2018, advised Virgin Islands residents to prepare emergency supply kits ahead of the June 1 start of hurricane season.
The advisory said a basic kit should include water, nonperishable food, a flashlight, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, medications and medical items, a multi-purpose tool, sanitation supplies, copies of personal documents, a cell phone with chargers, family and emergency contact information, extra cash, and extra fuel for a generator and car.
It said households also may need medical-care items, baby supplies, pet supplies, extra car and house keys, towels, plastic sheeting, duct tape, scissors and work gloves.
The advisory directed residents to Ready.gov and the American Red Cross website for additional information on assembling emergency kits.
