Bryan said St. John school land swap was nearing submission to Legislature

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on May 24, 2023, that his administration was preparing to send proposed legislation to the 35th Legislature for a land swap with the National Park Service to build a public K-12 school on St. John.

Bryan made the remarks during the Julius E. Sprauve School eighth-grade promotional exercise on St. John. He said the agreement with the National Park Service was about 60 days from completion and that the agency would be ready to move forward by July 1, 2023.

Bryan told students they could become the first class to graduate from a new school on St. John in 2027 if the project moves ahead.

He also said the territory had been trying to secure land for a school on St. John for 50 years.
