The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 22, 2024, that it was continuing water infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving drinking-water service and reducing water loss.

WAPA said the work included replacing older ductile iron pipes with PVC pipes to improve durability and efficiency in the water system.

The authority said it had posted information online about water rehabilitation projects, including project details, timelines and possible service impacts.

WAPA also said the territorywide overhaul of the water distribution system began on St. Croix and represented a $1 billion investment. It cited support from federal and local partners including the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Office of Disaster Recovery, the Office of the Governor, the Department of the Interior and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
