WAPA shut off potable water at 36 St. Croix locations for lead and copper resampling
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority began flushing potable water lines at 5 p.m. on October 20, 2023, at 36 St. Croix locations where initial sampling from September 28 to September 30, 2023, found high levels of lead and copper.
After the flushing, resampling was scheduled to begin early on October 21, 2023, in partnership with the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Potable water service at the affected locations was interrupted from October 20 through approximately 4 p.m. on October 21, 2023. Government House said advisory letters were sent to affected customers on October 19, 2023, stating the action was intended to help identify the source of the lead and copper.
Government House said results were expected within one to two weeks.
