The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said water division crews and contractor Leumas Engineering were scheduled to cap old potable water lines in Frederiksted on St. Croix on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021.
The work was set to begin at 7 a.m. and service was expected to be fully restored by 7 p.m. WAPA said some areas would experience water service interruptions and traffic changes during the work.
Line capping was planned at five intersections: New Street and King Cross Street, East Street and Queen Cross Street, New Street and Fisher Street, Hospital Street and Fisher Street, and King Street and Fisher Street. WAPA said those intersections would be closed to through traffic while work was underway.
WAPA said Frederiksted Town, Smithfield, Two Brothers and Veterans Shore Drive Road would experience reduced water pressure. Customers on Fisher Street and in portions of Smithfield could experience a complete water service interruption.
The authority said the work would complete the transition from the old water system to the new water distribution system on St. Croix's west end.
