WAPA staff completed fleet and protective-equipment training on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said March 25, 2024, that employees from its line, garage and safety departments completed a week-long training program on St. Croix led by Prime Fleet Services LLC.
According to WAPA, the training covered vehicle and equipment inspection, maintenance and safety procedures. Garage staff were trained on annual ANSI and Department of Transportation inspection requirements and on truck maintenance and repair.
Line department employees received training on daily testing and inspection of personal protective equipment and on dielectric testing methods, which WAPA said would allow the utility to perform routine testing in-house.
WAPA said Prime Fleet Services had been providing dielectric testing for the authority since 2023 and would continue to do so annually. The utility said the testing is required to help ensure the safety of trucks and equipment and that OSHA and ANSI rules require pre-trip and post-trip inspections by a qualified employee, with deficiencies reported immediately.
WAPA said similar training for the St. Thomas-St. John district was scheduled for April 2024.
