U.S. Labor Department awarded Virgin Islands $1.5 million dislocated worker grant
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the Virgin Islands Department of Labor a $1.5 million National Dislocated Worker Grant, according to a Government House announcement published May 8, 2020.
The grant was designated to provide disaster-relief employment, along with employment training and services. Government House said the funding came through the federal CARES Act, which provided $345 million for Dislocated Worker Grants tied to workforce impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the announcement, the Virgin Islands Department of Labor was to receive an executed grant agreement and a Notice of Award stating the effective date and any special conditions on the use of the federal funds. The award documents also were to specify the conditions under which the territory could request additional funding.
