Bryan wrote Biden offering U.S. Virgin Islands assistance for U.S. aid efforts to India

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. wrote to President Joe Biden on May 5, 2021, offering the U.S. Virgin Islands' assistance in U.S. efforts to help India during a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Government House said the letter cited the territory's historical ties to the Indian subcontinent and the influence of the local Indian community in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In the letter, Bryan wrote that hospitals in India had run out of beds and oxygen and that patients were being turned away. He also thanked Biden for speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and for U.S. support, including plans to send 60 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses to India.

Bryan closed the letter by asking Biden to say how the Virgin Islands could help.
