Bryan said he would veto any Virgin Islands bill restricting abortion rights after Roe ruling
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on June 24, 2022, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, saying abortion would remain legal in the U.S. Virgin Islands and that he would veto legislation that would make it more difficult for women to make reproductive health decisions.
In the statement, Bryan called the ruling "disappointing and concerning" and said it would "effectively criminalize abortion and women’s reproductive freedom in at least 20 states." He said, "A woman’s right to choose will remain safe and legal in the Virgin Islands."
