HUD Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman visited the U.S. Virgin Islands and met with Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. on Oct. 15, 2021, according to Government House.

Government House said Bryan and Todman discussed housing and disaster-recovery issues, including workforce rebuilding after the COVID-19 pandemic, the return of tourism and cruise ships, school reconstruction, housing needs, building-material shortages and the territory’s shift toward renewable energy.

Todman also updated Bryan on congressional negotiations over the federal reconciliation bill and the Build Back Better initiative, and discussed the potential effects of the Biden administration’s infrastructure bill on broadband access, roads, homeownership and public-housing preservation, according to the statement.

Government House said Bryan raised concerns about sustainable economic development, the continuing effects of the pandemic and efforts to revitalize the territory’s towns.

After the meeting, Todman toured the Magens Junction and Donoe affordable-housing projects on St. Thomas with Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority Director Daryl Griffith and Chief Disaster Recovery Officer Dayna Clendinen. She also visited private homes rebuilt through VIHFA’s EnVIsion program.
