Virgin Islands government said it was issuing $15 million in income tax refunds

The Virgin Islands government said on December 4, 2020, that it was issuing $15 million in income tax refunds in two disbursements scheduled to be completed by December 15, according to the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The government said the payments would include refunds for tax year 2018.

According to the release, the $15 million round consisted of a $5 million run covering 1,100 checks and a $10 million distribution to be completed by December 15. It said those were the first income tax refund issuances of fiscal year 2021.

The administration said it had issued 37,700 checks totaling $112.8 million to date. It said that in fiscal year 2020 it issued 24,700 checks totaling $68 million.

The release said taxpayers who believed they were owed an income tax refund from 2017 or earlier should contact the Bureau of Internal Revenue in their district to resolve any tax issues or account problems.
