Bryan said WAPA payment deadline in Vitol terminal acquisition was extended to April 15, 2024
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on Dec. 22, 2023, that the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority's second payment of $100 million in its proposed $145 million acquisition of Vitol Inc. LPG Infrastructure had been extended to April 15, 2024.
According to the statement, WAPA's documentation for a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant application was accepted as complete on Dec. 1, 2023. The application sought use of $145 million in Community Development Block Grant mitigation funds for the acquisition of the Vitol propane terminal facilities.
The statement said the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority was continuing work to complete the grant process ahead of the April 15, 2024 deadline.
Bryan also said he had pressed the Legislature to secure funding tied to accounts receivable involving the territory's two hospitals and the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority, which the statement said operate autonomously within the Virgin Islands government.
In the statement, Bryan said stabilizing WAPA remained one of his top priorities and said the central government had paid down tens of millions of dollars owed to the utility while working to remain current on its bills.
