WAPA said post-Karen power restoration was completed across the territory on Sept. 26
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said line crews completed post-Tropical Storm Karen restoration work across the territory on Sept. 26.
WAPA said crews had been deployed since the night of Sept. 24 to respond to more than 60 reports of isolated service interruptions. The agency said the outages included downed lines, blown fuses, irregular voltage and malfunctioning transformers.
According to WAPA, crews first handled trouble calls affecting larger numbers of customers and then addressed more complex outages later in the restoration effort. The authority said that, aside from a district-wide service interruption on the morning of Sept. 24 that it linked to a faulty lightning arrestor, the power plants operated without interruption during the approach and passage of Karen.
The release also said WAPA used an incident command system in its storm response and restoration operations.
