Bryan criticized Historic Preservation Committee vote on Vendors Plaza sign

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. on Aug. 28, 2023, issued a statement criticizing a vote by the Virgin Islands Historic Preservation Committee to remove the "I Love St. Thomas" sign at Vendors Plaza in Charlotte Amalie.

In the statement, Bryan said comments made by some committee members on Aug. 24 were "extremely disappointing" and said the committee was being used to hinder efforts to revitalize the territory's towns.

Bryan said his administration supported preservation of cultural and historic landmarks, but said preservation decisions should be guided by what he called a reasonable application of the committee's mandates rather than individual opinions.
