WAPA urged customers to keep paying utility bills during pandemic suspension of disconnections
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on April 22, 2020, that customers should continue paying electric and water bills during the COVID-19 emergency, even though service disconnections had been suspended.
WAPA said unpaid balances would still be owed when emergency conditions ended and normal operations resumed. The authority also said it was waiving late fees during the declared state of emergency.
Executive Director Lawrence J. Kupfer said customers who stayed current could avoid large accumulated balances or the need to enter installment plans while also paying new bills. He said regular bill payment also provided revenue needed to maintain WAPA operations.
WAPA said customers were encouraged to handle routine business by telephone or online and listed payment options including phone payments, automatic payments, online payments, check or money order drop boxes at Sunny Isle on St. Croix, The Marketplace on St. John and Port of Sale Mall on St. Thomas, and a self-service payment kiosk at Petrus Plaza on St. Thomas.
