The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said Interim Director of Transmission and Distribution Cordell Jacobs and Director of Project Management Chavante Marsh attended CARILEC’s Engineering and Procurement Conference in Trinidad from July 23 through July 27, 2023.

WAPA said Jacobs gave a presentation on the utility’s use of composite utility poles for overhead storm hardening in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to the authority, the composite pole project was funded 90% through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Program, with the remaining 10% provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

WAPA said the project was nearly 90% complete as of August 14, 2023, with 7,399 poles installed territory-wide.
