WAPA suspended in-person visits to customer service offices across the Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 15, 2020, that it would suspend in-person customer service visits across the territory beginning March 16, 2020, and direct customers to conduct most business online or by telephone.

WAPA said the change was intended to limit potential exposure to the coronavirus and would remain in effect until further notice.

The authority said walk-in transactions would not be handled during the period, though cashiers would remain available at customer service locations to accept payments. Self-service payment kiosks also remained in operation at Petrus Plaza on St. Thomas from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and during normal business hours at The Marketplace office on St. John and the Sunny Isle office on St. Croix.

WAPA said customers needing service, including new service applications and service transfers, were asked to use its telephone lines at 340-774-3552 or 340-773-2250 and select option 5. The authority said it would assign more customer service representatives to the phone system in anticipation of higher demand.

The agency also said customers could make payments online, by phone, through drop boxes at customer service offices, or at branches of First Bank and Popular.
