WAPA names Michael Sharp chief operating officer
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said April 12, 2022, that Michael Sharp had joined the utility as chief operating officer.
WAPA said Sharp had worked in operations, engineering and asset management for power generation and transmission infrastructure. The authority said he led operations for Talen Energy's Texas and New England assets before joining WAPA.
According to WAPA, Sharp previously co-founded and led an energy management company focused on organized energy markets and held commercial operations roles at Dynegy Inc. The authority said he spent much of his earlier career at Duke Energy, where he advanced from staff engineer to plant manager and later managed the company's commercial generation fleet.
WAPA said Sharp held a master's degree in finance from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from Xavier University and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology from the University of Cincinnati. The authority also said he served in the U.S. Navy nuclear power program before attending college.
