Former Sen. Allison DeGazon named director of Division of Economic Research

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. named former Sen. Allison DeGazon director of the Division of Economic Research, effective Feb. 15, 2021, according to a Government House announcement published Feb. 12, 2021.

The division, formerly known as the Bureau of Economic Research, had been under the Office of Management and Budget before becoming part of the Office of the Governor. Government House said the division produces statistical analysis and reports for public- and private-sector decision-making.

Before serving in the 33rd Legislature, where she chaired the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Regulations and Agriculture, DeGazon was assistant director of the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency from 2015 to 2017 and territorial director of unemployment insurance at the Virgin Islands Department of Labor from 2012 to 2015.

Government House said DeGazon holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of the Virgin Islands and a doctorate in creative leadership, innovation and change from the University of the Virgin Islands and Buffalo State College.
