WAPA said Vitol declared utility in default and planned to suspend LPG supply on Dec. 21

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on December 20, 2019, that its propane supplier, Vitol, had declared the utility in default on its payment obligations shortly after the Public Services Commission's December 12, 2019 meeting.

WAPA said Vitol planned to suspend liquefied petroleum gas fuel supply on Saturday, December 21, 2019.

The authority said it had been seeking rate relief from the PSC for more than a year and said the commission's actions at the December 12 meeting made it unable to meet its obligations to Vitol, refinance the LPG project on longer terms and lower rates, and complete other refinancings.
