Bryan proclaimed April 11 as Tom Joyner Day in the Virgin Islands

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. proclaimed April 11, 2019, as "Tom Joyner Day" in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to a Government House announcement issued that day.

The proclamation was scheduled to be presented during a welcome-back event for Joyner's Fantastic Voyage Cruise at 5 p.m. on April 11, 2019, at the WICO dock in Havensight. The event was hosted by the Department of Tourism.

Government House said Joyner's annual Fantastic Voyage Cruise was a fundraiser for the Tom Joyner Foundation, which supports historically Black colleges and universities, including the University of the Virgin Islands. The announcement said the foundation supports HBCUs through scholarships, endowments and capacity-building efforts and had raised more than $65 million since its founding in 1998.
