Bryan met with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell in Christiansted

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met with Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell at Government House in Christiansted on May 28, 2021, according to Government House.

The meeting included discussion of the reconstruction status of Paul E. Joseph Stadium, which Government House said remained under FEMA engineering review. The two also discussed more than $400 million released for the STEP program to pay vendors and contractors for recovery work.

Other topics included a waiver of the territory's 10% match for federal funds, concerns regarding the territory's hospitals, the status of school reconstruction, upgrades to wastewater and drinking water systems, and preparedness for the 2021 hurricane season, including shelter operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also attending were Office of Disaster Recovery Director Adrienne Williams-Octalien, VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen, Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion, and FEMA Acting Recovery Director for the Virgin Islands John Covell.

Government House said Criswell had been confirmed by Congress as FEMA administrator on April 22, 2021, and was sworn in on April 26, 2021.
