Health commissioner barred live bands at outdoor events through Nov. 6, 2020
Virgin Islands Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion issued a public health order on October 8, 2020, prohibiting live bands at outdoor events from October 10 through November 6, 2020. Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. signed the order on October 9, 2020.
The order also said gatherings of more than 50 people, including political campaign events or meetings, concerts, parties and cultural events, were prohibited. Gatherings of fewer than 50 people were allowed if attendees followed social-distancing and face-covering requirements under the governor’s Sept. 8, 2020 supplemental executive order, as amended.
Single-person DJ performances were allowed under the order if the DJ setup maintained at least 10 feet of space from patrons and attendees.
The order said food sales were prohibited without a current health card. Alcohol sales were prohibited without a current liquor license from the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs or a special permit from the Police Commissioner.
The order said violations could bring fines of $1,000 per participant for mass-gathering violations, $5,000 per organizer, and immediate closure of the event.
