Mapp approved nine additional St. Croix road contracts; Estate Nadir bridge opened to traffic
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp approved nine additional contracts for road repair and improvement on St. Croix, according to a Government House announcement published Oct. 10, 2018.
The announcement said Mapp also visited Estate Nadir on Oct. 8, 2018, as the so-called "Bridge to Somewhere" was opened to traffic for the first time more than two decades after it was built. The project was intended to help mitigate flooding in the area.
Government House said the St. Croix projects approved on Oct. 5, 2018, included Route 68 at Peter's Rest from Schuster Water Services to the Cool Out Bar; Estate Humbug, Christiansted; Estate Tipperary residential roads on the East End; Grove Place, Frederiksted; Anna's Hope, Christiansted; Route 633 near Central High School; Sierra Verde, East End; and Route 81, Sion Valley Road pavement rehabilitation and drainage improvements.
The announcement also said the Department of Public Works had identified 940 miles of Virgin Islands roadway for reconstruction to federal highway standards and that more than $530 million had been identified for the first phase of the road work.
