The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 16, 2023, that crews continued work to restore water service in Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas after a 24-inch main that feeds the downtown area broke early on March 15.
WAPA said crews completed repairs to the broken pipe late on March 15 and opened valves to restore service. During that process, a faulty valve did not fully open, which the authority said significantly reduced water flow and left much of Charlotte Amalie and nearby areas with little to no water pressure.
The authority said crews returned to the site on March 16 to excavate and repair the underground valve. WAPA said it expected water pressure to be restored by early that afternoon.
