Clinton Global Initiative scheduled April 3 launch of post-disaster recovery network

Former President Bill Clinton was scheduled to launch the Clinton Global Initiative Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery on April 3, 2018, at the University of Miami, according to a March 27, 2018 announcement.

The statement said more than 300 leaders from government, business and civil society were expected to attend discussions on immediate and long-term hurricane recovery needs in the Caribbean region.

According to the announcement, participants were to work toward new "Commitments to Action" addressing health care, housing, clean energy, education, small-business support, mental health and climate resiliency.

The listed participants included Gov. Kenneth Mapp of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón, Delegate Stacey Plaskett, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Caribbean Community Secretary-General Irwin LaRocque.

The announcement said Clinton had held a planning meeting earlier in 2018 at the urging of leaders from Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, and Dominica. It said commitments already in development included rebuilding schools and homes in Dominica and installing solar equipment at primary care clinics in Puerto Rico.

The group was expected to meet in person quarterly, the statement said.
