Bryan issued March proclamations recognizing history, women, nutrition, social work and observances
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a series of proclamations on March 4, 2024, recognizing Virgin Islands History Month, Women’s History Month, National Nutrition Month and Social Work Month in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The proclamations also designated March 3 through March 9, 2024, as Consumer Protection Week, March 28, 2024, as National Medical Billers Day, and March 29, 2024, as National Vietnam War Veterans Day in the territory.
In the Virgin Islands History Month proclamation, Bryan said March would include the celebration and commemoration of events that shaped the territory’s history and culture and would pay tribute to people who contributed to the lives of Virgin Islanders.
In proclaiming March 2024 as National Women’s History Month, Bryan cited the national theme, "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion," and referenced Queen Mary, Queen Agnes and Queen Mathilda of St. Croix for their role in advancing laborers’ rights after emancipation.
The nutrition proclamation designated March as National Nutrition Month and cited the 2024 theme, "Beyond the Table." The Social Work Month proclamation recognized social workers’ role in helping people cope with grief and recover from disasters including hurricanes, drought and flooding.
The Vietnam War Veterans Day proclamation marked the anniversary of March 29, 1973, the date U.S. combat troops withdrew from Vietnam.
