Bryan appoints Sirri Hamad as envoy to Middle Eastern community, declares Nov. 29 friendship day

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on June 10 that local businessman Sirri Hamad had been appointed the governor’s envoy to the Middle Eastern community in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Government House said Hamad, described as a leader within the territory’s Middle Eastern community, would serve in a liaison role aimed at improving dialogue and cooperation.

Bryan also declared Nov. 29 as Virgin Islands-Palestinian Friendship Day across the territory through an executive order announced on June 10. Government House said the date coincides with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

In the announcement, Bryan said the Palestinian community had become an integral part of Virgin Islands society and called for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
