Bryan signed proclamation designating November as Virgin Islands Recycles Month
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. signed a proclamation designating November 2019 as "Virgin Islands Recycles Month," Government House said on Nov. 7, 2019.
The designation aligned the territory with the national "America Recycles Month" campaign. Government House said the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority planned activities in both districts during November to promote recycling and waste reduction.
The authority said it would install banners on St. Croix near the Red Cross building, on St. Thomas at Cancryn Bridge in Altona, and on St. John in Estate Suzannaberg. It also said public service announcements would air on local radio stations and that environmental educators would visit schools in both districts.
The authority's November schedule included participation in the 340 Zero Waste Festival from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2019, at Plaza Extra Supermarket at Tutu Park Mall on St. Thomas; a composting workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Nov. 16, 2019, at the University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service on St. Croix; an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2019, at its main St. Croix office at 252 Estate Glynn; an informational display at Taste of Two Islands beginning at 6 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2019, at Antilles School on St. Thomas; a composting workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 23, 2019, at Gifft Hill School's Upper Campus on St. John; and another composting workshop on Nov. 30, 2019, at the St. Thomas-St. John District Agriculture and Food Fair in Estate Bordeaux on St. Thomas.
