Anderson Stewart Family Foundation announced $1 million donation for U.S. Virgin Islands COVID-19 response

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and the Anderson Stewart Family Foundation announced on April 10, 2020, a $1 million grant to the Virgin Islands Department of Health for equipment and services related to the COVID-19 response.

According to Government House, the money was to be used to buy items on the governor's list of needed supplies, including rapid test kits, N95 masks, personal protective equipment, ventilators and infrared laser thermometers. Funds also were to support stress counseling and mental-health services for residents affected by the coronavirus.

The donation was to be facilitated through Virgin Islands Partners for Healthy Communities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and disbursed through the Health Department.

Government House said supplies purchased with the grant would be distributed to the Health Department and Virgin Islands health organizations, Juan F. Luis Hospital, Schneider Regional Medical Center, territorial community district distribution campaigns, the Education Department, Police Department, Bureau of Corrections, Virgin Islands National Guard, Justice Department and community partners including Ten Thousand Helpers, the Women's Coalition and The Village.
